About us

The Children's Policy Centre is based at the Crawford School of Public Policy at The Australian National University.  We undertake innovative, inter-disciplinary research on a range of issues relating to children's policy.  In defining children, we draw on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and focus on people aged under eighteen years.

The Children's Policy Centre is committed to securing the human rights, well-being and best interests of children.  Through our research, contribution to policy and engagement in public debates, the CPC seeks to foster a paradigm shift in the way in which children and children's issues are dealt with in policy, whereby children are genuinely considered to be full and valued members of society.

The Children's Policy Centre (CPC) aims to:

  • Undertake high quality, interdisciplinary research on key children's issues;
  • Prioritise ethical and rigourous research with children designed to deepen insights into children's experiences, views and priorities;
  • Contribute to policy-making processes and promote discussion of children's policy issues, in Australia, across the regional and globally;
  • Foster networks and promote collaboration between researchers, policy makers and practitioners on children's policy issues;
  • Ensure that children's views, priorities and experiences are genuinely reflected in policy-making processes and in public discussion.

Effective communication of research findings is central to the mission of the Children's Policy Centre.  To achieve this, we run and co-host a range of conferences, seminars and roundtables on children's policy issues.  We aim to present key research findings in accessible, policy-relevant formats; as well as producing high quality scholarly work.  We also aim to present our key research findings in ways that are accessible to children.
