Monira Ahsan

Monira is a PhD candidate in Public Policy. She holds a Bachelor degree (Honours) and a Master of International Relations from Dhaka University, Bangladesh, as well as a Master of Social Policy and Development from the London School of Economics. Her PhD thesis investigates children's relationships to the family, society and the state in Bangladesh.

Through empirical research she examines children's and young people's participation in decision-making at family, community and state levels, and explores the dynamics, constraints and possibilities of children's participation in private as well as in public policy making in Bangladesh.

She has research interests in children and young people's participation in decision-making in the family, community and government; ethical and rights-based research with children and young people; rights-based social policy for children and young people; child labour; children and young people growing up in institutional care; corporal punishment; and disadvantaged children and young people. Monira has 10 years' experience in working with Save the Children Australia in Bangladesh.
